Over the past decade cellular radio networks have evolved into multi-band, multi RAT heterogeneous systems which consist of tens of thousands of cells with hundreds of settings in each of them. Meanwhile, the mobile telecommunications industry has gone through a cost reduction process resulting in significant job cuts. This means that at present efficient network management is extremely challenging and has to be done by fewer staff than ever before.

In this circumstances, even the most skilled engineers without proper tools will focus on vital matters, leaving undone all those things that are "just" important. It is increasingly being observed that many "mature" LTE™ networks operate solely on the basis of the default configuration, whereas it is hard to assume that in all those networks default parameters’ settings are always optimal.

The E-UTRAN/LTE SON (R8-R12) training introduces Self-Organising Network (SON) features as the proper tools to address the problems outlined above. All aspects of SON including self-configuration, self-optimisation as well as self-healing are described as defined in different releases of LTE standard (R8-R12).

Target audience:

The course is intended for experienced network engineers, network tuning staff, E-UTRAN developers and anyone with network experience who needs to develop technical knowledge on functionality, capabilities, limitations and commercial availability of SON features.

Duration:

2 days.

Contents:

  • Introduction,
  • NAS, RRC & MAC protocol essentials,
  • M2M load control,
  • RLF and other failures,
  • RACH Optimisation,
  • Mobility Robustness Optimisation (MRO) intra-LTE and inter-RAT,
  • Minimisation of Drive Tests (MDT) intra-LTE & inter-RAT,
